Introducing our inaugural Walker Learning Virtual Study Tour – NEW for Term 4, 2020

Despite the challenges this year has posed for all of us, Early Life Foundations and Walker Learning have responded by developing online PD sessions so we can continue to support our educators and schools in their professional learning. Sadly due to covid-19 restrictions, opportunities for face to face Study Tours during 2020 have been nearly impossible to set up with any certainty. In direct response to social distancing requirements and the current travel restrictions, let us bring our Walker Learning Study Tour to you!

Join us from the convenience of your home or school for our Virtual Study Tour.

The Virtual Tour takes you to a school where you will observe students and teachers in action, demonstrating the Walker Learning Approach.

You will observe:

  • tuning in
  • reflection
  • the learning environment
  • focus children
  • reporter and photographer

Further professional learning by our consultant follows, including unpacking the core elements of the pedagogy and using a virtual showcase of the core elements from Walker Learning classrooms across Australia.

This inspirational Virtual Study Tour is for leaders and teachers interested in Play-based Learning or those already implementing Walker Learning and wishing to refine and clarify practice.

Walker Learning Study Tours are a "must do" for educators and leadership who are new to or just beginning their Walker Learning journey.

     DAY 2

If you can't attend Day 2, we will send you a recording of the Keynote and session

  • Keynote by Dr Peggy Kern: Supporting Children’s Wellbeing: the importance of personalised and holistic learning in positive education. Dr. Peggy Kern is an Associate Professor at the Centre of Positive Psychology within the University of Melbourne’s Graduate School of Education.
  • Audience Q&A
  • Summary and closing comments from the Walker Learning Team

We are excited to introduce Dr. Peggy Kern as our Keynote Speaker. Peggy is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Positive Psychology within the University of Melbourne’s Graduate School of Education. Originally trained in social, personality, and developmental psychology, Peggy received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Arizona State University, a Masters and Ph.D. in social/personality psychology from the University of California, and postdoctoral training in positive psychology at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr Kern’s research focuses on understanding, measuring, and supporting wellbeing across the lifespan. She works with schools and workplaces to examine strategies for supporting wellbeing and bridging gaps between research and practice. She has worked with many of the leaders across the positive psychology field. In 2016, she founded the International Positive Psychology Association’s Education Division, and developed and leads the Professional Certificate in Positive Education at Melbourne University.

2020 has been a year like no other. Schools have been at the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic, with normal ways of learning completely disrupted. While some children have adjusted well, many have struggled. As we consider the new normal, it is vital that schools not only focus on the academic development of students, but also on the mental wellbeing and holistic development of young people. The keynote will focus on what we’ve learned through positive education, in terms of supporting student wellbeing. By focusing on personalised and holistic learning approach, we can proactively help students to be mentally well, resilient, and prepared to learn.
